Jökulsárlón ferðaþjónusta ehf

The Glacier Lagoon (Jökulsárlón), a glacial river lagoon in Iceland, is part of one of the shortest rivers in Iceland, Jökulsá á Breidamerkursandi, which is only 1500 metres (4900 feet) long.

The Glacier lagoon in Iceland is close to highway number one, about 350 km east from Reykjavík, and it is told to be one of the greatest wonders of nature in Iceland. This is lagoon is a recent one, the result of a warmer climate. The surface is at sea level and sea water flows into the lagoon at high tide.

Huge blocks of ice constantly break off the glacier, Breidamerkurjokull glacier, and large icebergs from the glacier float on the lagoon. The lagoon is not very wide but it up to 160 metres deep. The glacier Breiðamerkurjökull glacier is an outlet of the Vatnajökull glacier.

The company Jökulsárlón offers exciting boat trips on the glacier lagoon. And you can sail among the hugh icebergs. It is really facinating. The ice from the glacier is over 1,000 years old. This is a very popular sightseeing attraction, widely regarded as the most picturesque scenery in all of south Iceland. The duration of the boattrip is approximately 40 minutes.

The Glacier Lagoon in Iceland is the boundary between the settlements of Hrollaugur Rognvaldsson and Þórður Illugi, who stranded his ship there and bought his land from Hrollaugur.

Glacier Lagoon is a famous tourist attraction, and has been seen by more people than other Icelandic sites, but that is due to a part of a James Bond film, Die another day, being filmed there.

In the Café by Jökulsárlón, you can get a variety of refreshments such as Sandwiches, coffee, hot chocolate and soft drinks.
